The Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP) approved today 180 new applications for the establishment of private MSMEs, which pushes the figure up to 4,651.

As explained last Wednesday, by the Minister President of the Central Bank of Cuba at the Mesa Redonda TV program, on Thursday, the 4th of August, the implementation of operations for the purchase of foreign currencies currently accepted in the country began, in the network of banks and CADECA offices, with a new exchange rate.

The city of Baracoa, in Guantanamo, will hold August 11 to 14, the 2nd Forum of business, export, import substitution and local development, a space for the promotion of foreign investment in the territory.

The recently set up micro, small, medium companies and cooperatives employ 109 thousand 237 Cuban citizens, including 7 thousand 890 owners or partners, along 101 thousand 347 employees, according to official estimates.

Alejandro Gil Fernández, deputy prime minister and head of the Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP), clarified that the purchase of foreign currency by the State should not lead to higher prices, since this measure is aimed at promoting observance of the legislation and contributing to the country's recovery.

As part of a new package of measures announced by the Cuban government to advance the country’s economic recovery, the Customs office will enforce, as of August 15, the modification of tariffs on air, maritime, postal non-commercial shipments.

The Cuban Economy and Planning Ministry approved 89 new applications to set up micro, small and medium private companies, which takes the number of those entities to 4 thousand 269.
