HAVANA, Cuba, February 25 (ACN) The documentary Pintemos de violeta la economía cubana… para que ninguna quede atrás (Let's paint the Cuban economy purple... so that no woman is left behind), stemmed from Project Palomas, was the focus of discussion during the weekly press conference of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC).
Paloma’s director Lizette Vila said that the film shows 46 Cuban women with different life stories and social conditions suggest changes—starting with their economic rights—to some major aspects with a view to improving female autonomy in Cuba. “Like all of Palomas’s audiovisual materials on gender equality and inclusion, Pintemos… is a contribution to the National Program for the Advancement of Women launched in 2021”, she stressed
On his end, Sergio Cabrera, director of Pintemos… and general coordinator of Palomas, remarked that the material marks a turning point in the project's previous works, which invited policymakers to experience women's suffering through the life stories told in the documentaries.
“This documentary doesn't narrate life stories; rather, it reflects a collective voice through testimonies provided by different women, some with solid life plans and others who simply survive day to day, so that it can become a starting point for a social movement in which no one is left behind in terms of economic autonomy”, he pointed out.
Ms. Vila underscored that the screening of the documentary at the Interdisciplinary Research Center of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) was an experience that helped her connect more deeply with the women who attended the presentation present and verify the closeness between the Cuban cultural delegation and the Mexican audience that welcome them, which the filmmaker described a highly important at this time.
