Prominent Cuban journalist dies in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, June 23 (ACN) Journalist Lazaro Chiang Macate, a renowned reporter for Radio Reloj, passed away early Tuesday morning from cardiorespiratory arrest.

The station, where the journalist worked for nearly 50 years, announced his death today, highlighting his distinguished career in the noble profession of journalism.

Chiang Macate served on an internationalist mission in Ethiopia, received the commemorative seal from the Cuban Journalists Association (UPEC by its Spanish acrnym), the 90th Anniversary Seal of Cuban Radio, and the Microphone Award from the Cuban Radio System.

He was a member of the UPEC's Circle of War Correspondents and a winner of the World Journalism Prize, awarded by the World Council of University Authorities and the World Association for Special Education.

Lazaro Jose Chiang Macate had an impressive resume and contributed to the training of other colleagues.

According to the statement, his family has decided that his body will be cremated.
