HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 23 (ACN) — On Thursday, at the opening of the 17th session of the UNCTAD Multi-Year Expert Meeting on Commodities and Development in Geneva, Cuba denounced the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, stating that it hinders equitable access to essential supplies in international markets.
According to the website misiones.cubaminrex.cu, Jose Ernesto Diaz Perez, a counselor at Cuba’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, highlighted the operational limitations caused by the financial siege and the blockade on fuel supplies while speaking during the forum’s general debate.
The diplomat asserted that no strategy for economic growth or sustainable development is viable without energy, technology, financing, and market access.
He requested that the meeting’s report clearly reflect the negative impact of these unilateral coercive measures.
The Cuban delegation warned that such measures directly impede access to basic commodities and undermine food security by disrupting supply chains.
According to official data, the estimated damage to the country’s agri-food sector between March 2025 and February 2026 exceeded $848 billion, occurring in a context where dozens of international banking institutions refused to process transactions for the procurement of food and fuel.
