Cuba appreciates India’s support for maternal and neonatal health

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 23 (ACN) — On Thursday, at the United Nations , Cuba reaffirmed the importance of South-South cooperation as an essential instrument for promoting sustainable development and strengthening solidarity among developing nations.

This took place during the annual event of the India-UN Development Partnership Fund.

According to the website misiones.cubaminrex.cu, Ernesto Soberon Guzman, Cuba’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, expressed gratitude for India’s support for a project aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity on the island.

He underscored that this initiative serves as a concrete expression of the friendship and solidarity between the two nations.

The diplomat noted that the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and resources enables countries to address common challenges.

He also emphasized that, in the face of an unjust and exclusionary international order, it is imperative to strengthen cooperation mechanisms rooted in equality, mutual respect, and complementarity.

Soberon stressed that protecting the lives and health of mothers and newborns is a priority for Cuba.

He added that the support received goes beyond its immediate contribution to the public health system, representing an investment in the well-being of families and communities.
The ambassador highlighted that the Development Partnership Fund demonstrates the potential of cooperation among countries of the Global South—supported by the United Nations system—to transform solidarity into tangible results and to advance toward the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Finally, Cuban representative reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to strengthening South-South cooperation and deepening its historic ties of friendship and collaboration with India, in pursuit of a sustainable development that leaves no one behind.
