Although required as in the semifinal, the two-time Olympic champion and five-time world titleholder Julio Cesar La Cruz, Cuba's standard bearer at the 19th Pan American Games, won the gold medal today in Santiago de Chile.

Wednesday brought Cuba only one silver medal and one bronze, so the Island’s delegation remained in seventh place by nations in the 19th Pan American Games currently under way in Chile.

The Cuban divers Anisley Garcia and Prisis Leydis Ruiz finished fourth in the synchronized 3m springboard event of the 19th Pan American Games currently under way in this city.

With a national record and an idyllic fourth place, the Cuban swimmers Elisbet Gámez, Andrea Becali, Lorena González and Laurent Estrada excelled in the 4x200m freestyle relay event of the 19th Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile with a time of 8:11.03 min, way ahead of their closest followers.

The 13th edition of the Gran Torneo Cuba (Great Cuba Golf Tournament), sponsored by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism and Palmares S.A. Extra-Hotel Company, will begin this Wednesday and will last until Saturday in this seaside resort city, with the presence of 54 competitors from countries like Canada, Germany and the United States.

After increasing its number of medals on Monday-- one gold and one silver--, Cuba advanced to the six position at Santiago de Chile Pan-American Games.
