HAVANA, Cuba, June 22 (ACN) Cuba’s Alejandro Rodríguez Diez achieved a historic result by winning the silver medal in the Sprint event of the 2025 World Triathlon Cup, held in Huatulco, Mexico with 49 athletes from more than 20 countries.
Rodríguez completed the demanding race—a 750 m swim, a 20 km bike ride, and a 5 km run—in 55 minutes and seven seconds, good enough to finish second behind Israel’s Shachar Sagiv (54.53) and ahead of Poland’s Kuba Gajda (55.11) and achieve Cuba’s best result ever in a competition of this level.
Rodríguez expressed his excitement over his accomplishment: “The World Triathlon team gave me this chance and I said I would do my best to rise in the world ranking and get closer to the first Olympic qualification for a Cuban, which is my dream and that of my teammates.”
After this outstanding performance, the triathlete will return to the Dominican Republic, where he will keep training as part of the World Triathlon scholarship program until July 13.
