Cuban sport faces a year of great challenges

HAVANA, Cuba, July 1 (ACN) Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (Inder by its Spanish acronym), presented important elements of the sports organization's accountability to the National Assembly of People's Power regarding the Cuban Sports draft and other topics of interest.
The digital edition of the sports publication JIT highlights that Vento also offered details related to priorities and immediate challenges for sports, from the base to high performance—including recreation and other aspects—on Monday's Mesa Redonda radio and television program.

Regarding the legislative action, the head of INDER detailed the progress made since the draft was drafted, discussed in different forums, until reaching its 13th version.

He stated that it reflects many of the opinions expressed in the 29 in-person meetings and others expressed by the public through email and other means. He emphasized that this will be the first law of its kind in the country and will allow for the implementation of the policy of improving the Cuban Sports System.

Vento also emphasized that, above all, it is based on the thinking of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the inspiring guide of the work erected during INDER's 64 years, which has him as a support in each new challenge.

He also maintained that the efforts related to the revitalization of facilities, the work driven by science, and other options to overcome known difficulties are part of the organization's immediate strategy, whose actions have a significant impact on the well-being and spiritual satisfaction of the population.

Vento also emphasized that sport is part of the idiosyncrasy of Cubans, who proudly enjoy winning Olympic and world medals, a condition that must be maintained despite the limitations.

Regarding the center, designed as a link between the Sports Initiation Schools (Eide) and the national teams, the president of INDER announced that it will initially have enrollment for nine sports, although it could increase to 13, and will be located in the capital's Cotorro municipality.

He also mentioned the celebration of the 2nd International Sports Fair in Cuba and the 25th anniversary of the National Commission for Athletes, an occasion on which the team's achievements were reviewed, highlighting good examples and identifying dissatisfaction.

Topics such as working with people with disabilities, recreation—reactivated in January with the Siempre Joven Sports Inductions—the goal of making a strong contribution to the summer season, and improving talent recruitment were also featured in Vento's presentation.

Among the main activities planned before the end of this year, he mentioned the 11th ING Physical Activity and Sports Convention (Afide 2025), which will have China as the guest country.
