HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 24 (ACN) Cuban triathlete Alejandro Rodriguez Diez climbs 42 places at world rankings after winning the silver medal at the 2025 Huatulco Triathlon World Cup, held on weekend at Plaza Santa Cruz, in the bay of the same name, Mexico.
Thanks to his outstanding performance, Rodriguez climbed to 66th in the global rankings and 11th in the continental American rankings, according to the update published on Monday by World Triathlon.
The young Cuban score 55:7 seconds in the demanding Sprint event, which included a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride, and a five-kilometer run.
He was only beaten by Israeli Shachar Sagiv (54:53), while Poland's Kuba Gajda took the bronze with a time of 55:11.
The international organization described his performance as "the story of the day," as it was his first World Cup participation and he set the fastest time of the event—14 minutes, 57 seconds—in the five-kilometer run segment.
Rodriguez outperformed experienced rivals such as Mexican Aram Peñaflor and Chilean Diego Moya, members of the World Development Team, who, despite facing logistical difficulties due to Hurricane Erick, achieved outstanding performances at the event.
With this result, the Cuban extends his record to 39 international events, with 16 podium finishes and 10 victories, consolidating his position as the leading men exponent of national triathlon.
Although his entry has not yet been confirmed, Rodriguez's next goal is the Valencia World Cup, scheduled for September 14 and 15, where he will seek to consolidate his progress and continue getting closer to his dream of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
