Cuba has notched up eight medals at the 8th Pan American Masters Swimming Championships in Medellin, Colombia, with outstanding performances by Cuban veteran swimmers Tania Coffigny—sixth in 50m freestyle and 200m combined—and Carlos Perez—seventh in the latter event—both of whom won three medals.

Cuban discus thrower Yaime Perez, winner in Doha 2019 and third in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, finished 7th in the final match of this specialty in 18th World Athletics Championships, held in Eugene, Oregon, U.S.A. after marking 63.07 m in her best throw.

Cuba will compete with 20 weightlifters in the Pan American Weightlifting Championships, scheduled for July 24-29 in Bogota, Colombia, the second and final qualifying event for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023 (Cuba could not attend the first one held in Ecuador in late 2021).

Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of the Cuban Sports Institute (INDER), and Alvin Botes, deputy minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, who is paying an official visit to Cuba, talked about issues of mutual interest, including cooperation in the field of sports, during a meeting that Vento Montiller described as excellent.

Cuban swimmers Rodolfo Falcon (junior) and Vladimir Hernandez secured places for the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, after competing in open water at the regional championship held in Barbados.

Cuban women discus throwers Yaimé Perez—champion in Doha 2019 and third in Tokyo 2020—and Silinda Morales will make their debut today in the 18th World Athletics Championships Oregon 22, where they will strive to reach in the qualifiers the minimum mark of 64 meters required to advance to the final.
