Cuban cyclist wins gold at the Caribbean Road Cycling Cup



HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) Cuban Claudia Baro won the gold medal in the main event of the Caribbean Road Cycling Championships, at the closing of the tournament in Santo Domingo.

It was a close finish between the Cuban and Kelyane Julus, from Martinique. Julus was runner-up with the same time as Baro, 1:59:44 hours, according to the Pan American Cycling Confederation T
Caitlin Conyers came in third, just three hundredths of a second behind, after 70 kilometers (km) of racing.

Evelyn Diaz and Aylena de las Mercedes Quevedo, the other Cubans in the event, finished 6th and 18th, among the 19 riders who completed the course, out of 20 who started.

Baro, who won bronze on Saturday in the other modality, the time trial, was the most outstanding in the competition.

In the men's 130 km road race, Cubans Alejandro Parra, Yan Luis Arrieta, Pedro Portuondo and Kevin Vega finished in Santo Domingo in 6th, 10th, 20th and 27th places, respectively.
