The Cuban junior men's handball team will make its debut today against Martinique in the qualifying tournament for the World Championship of that sport, to be held in Mexico City until the 17th.

The pitching did not endure, the hitters did not contribute and Cuba lost 4-9 to Puerto Rico to finish with a silver medal at the 4th Caribbean Baseball Cup, held at the Andre Rodgers Stadium, in Nassau, Bahamas.

 The Cuban duet Noslen Díaz-Jorge Luis Alayo finished second in the eighth and last phase of the North, Central America and Caribbean Circuit (NORCECA) of beach volleyball, held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, after losing 1-2 in the final to the Canadians Samuel Schatcher and Daniel Dearing.

Washington has not yet granted permit to Cuban-origin athletes currently in major leagues baseball to join the Cuba team to the 5th World Baseball Classic, scheduled for March 8-21 next year.

Cuban cyclist Arlenis Sierra has been Best Athlete of Cuban sport with an institutional contract since 2019, when such status was first granted by vote of specialists from the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation and the specialized Cuban press.
