HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 9 (ACN) The Cuban baseball team defeated today, 8-7, the champion Curacao, in the last elimination round of the 4th Caribbean Cup held at the Andre Rodgers Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.
With this victory, the team coached by Cuban Armando Jhonson avenged the 4-3 defeat suffered against the Curaçaoans in the final of the last edition in 2021.
The reigning champions signed a worrisome five-run rally in the third inning, in which they earned four walks -two of which were to the relief pitcher Andy Vargas-, and hit a couple of hits, including a double by Raysheandell Miche that towed two.
However, the Cubans were opportune at bat, they scored, and in the end they won the game.
Yoelquis Guibert was the best hitter, connecting three singles, including a home run, to drive in two runs. The shortstop Luis Vicente Mateo hit two hits with a single and Alexquemer Sanchez had a pair of runs.
Franky Quintana was successful and Cuba finishes the qualifying phase with three wins and one loss, and must wait for the result of the game between Puerto Rico and Bahamas to be played next to find out how the semifinal crossings will turn out.
