HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 7 (ACN) Arley Calderon (61 kg) will be Cuba’s first competitor today in the World Weightlifting Championships, where 537 athletes from 93 countries are participating.
Calderon (61 kg), who will be in Group B—which has eleven weightlifters in competition—was recognized in November by the Cuban Federation as the best weightlifter in 2022, considering that he was second in March in the emblematic Manuel Suarez In Memoriam International Weightlifting Tournament in Havana and won two silver medals in July at the Pan American Championships in Colombia, among other remarkable results.
Ayamey Medina (81 kg), Ariolvis Begue (89) and Olfide Saez (89) complete the Cuban roster for this tournament, and their goal is to start preparing to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
