HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 6 (ACN) Cuban cyclist Arlenis Sierra has been Best Athlete of Cuban sport with an institutional contract since 2019, when such status was first granted by vote of specialists from the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation and the specialized Cuban press.
This year, Sierra finished sixth in the World Road Championship, won the Pan American title and excelled in the most important races of road cycling. In 2019, as captain of the Astana Women's Team (Italy), she won the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in Australia, the Premondiale Giro della Toscana in Italy, and the route of the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
Likewise, in 2021, Sierra won the Giro della Toscana and the Tre Valli Varesine (Italy) and was third in points in the Tour of Ardéche (France), second in the Giro dell' Emilia (Italy) and fifth in the World Championship.
During 2022, as member of the famous Spanish club Movistar Team, Arlenis won the Tour of Andalusia in Spain and the Pan Am tournament in Argentina before returning to Europe to compete in several championships in Italy, France and Spain. She also won medals and had outstanding results in competitions like the Tours de Romandie (Switzerland) and Flanders (Belgium).
