HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 11 (ACN) The pitching did not endure, the hitters did not contribute and Cuba lost 4-9 to Puerto Rico to finish with a silver medal at the 4th Caribbean Baseball Cup, held at the Andre Rodgers Stadium, in Nassau, Bahamas.
This performance is identical to the one obtained by the Cuban team last year in a similar event, when they lost 3-4 in the final against the host Curacao.
In Sunday's game, Puerto Rican mentor Juan Igor Gonzalez once again used left-hander Jose Carlos Burgos as starter, who had dominated the Cuban offense and also won the game played in the preliminary phase.
Of the four runs scored by the Cubans, three came from Alexquemer, who hit a two-run double in the seventh inning.
Cubans Yoelkis Guibert, as designated hitter, and relief pitcher Yeudis Reyes, were included in the All-Star team for the Bahamas 2022 Caribbean Cup. This competition will be held next year in Puerto Rico.
