HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) Cuban pistol shooters Leuris Pupo, Jorge Felix Alvarez and Jorge Grau were today close to the final in the 25-meter (m) rapid fire pistol team event, corresponding to the World Shooting Sport Championships to be held in Cairo, until the 27th.
Pupo, Alvarez and Grau scored 854 points to place 9th among 16 teams, four units behind the Czech Republic shooters, who reached the eighth and last finalist ticket.
The three representatives of Cuba scored 291 points in the first series of shots, to which they added 288 in the second and 275 in the third, so they went from more to less in the competition and that denied them a better result.
As for the contribution of each one, Pupo, champion in the London 2012 summer event and winner of the silver medal in Tokyo 2020, as expected, led his teammates with 286 (97-96-93), followed by Alvarez and Grau, both with 284, according to the official website of the competition.
That first qualifying stage was dominated by the Germans (878), but they were unable to advance to the medal discussion, an instance to which the first four teams of the second phase were admitted.
In the dispute for the medals, the Chinese beat the Ukrainians 16-6 for the title, and the South Koreans defeated the Czechs by the same score in the battle for the bronze medals.
