Injury frustrates Cuban Alba in Taekwondo Grand Prix

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) Two-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Rafael Alba fell in his first bout at the Taekwondo Grand Prix in Manchester, when he was injured in a fight he was dominating.

Due to the injury of the Cuban super heavyweight, the referee stopped the fight before the regulation time, so the victory went to the European champion, the Croatian Pasko Bozic, defeated by Alba last month in the Grand Prix of Paris, where the Cuban won the gold.

This time in Manchester, the gold went to the Brazilian Maicon Siqueira.

The South American overcame in the last exchanges the local Caden Cunningham, who reached the dispute of the title after winning against the Olympic champion of Rio de Janeiro 2016, Cheick Sallah Cisse, from Ivory Coast, also out of the final in Paris due to the Cuban.

Manchester was the third stop of the 2022 World Taekwondo Grand Prix and the last before the grand final in China, and featured 32 fighters in each of the eight Olympic divisions.
