Cuba is participating at the 6th Meeting of the Forum of Latin American and Caribbean countries on Sustainable Development, which opened today at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean in Santiago de Chile, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (MINCEX by its Spanish acronym) reported.

At the Cuba-Vietnam Business Forum, held today in Havana, representatives of companies or entities of both nations signed several cooperation agreements, in the presence of Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuban Prime Minister, and Vuong Dinh Hue, chairman of the National Assembly of that Asian country.

Without forgetting the current serious- situation with automotive transport, which includes cargo and passenger transport, a project is being developed to achieve the recovery and progressive replacement of the existing fleet in Cuba, in order to have the means to ensure the economic and social activity of the country.

Representatives of the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) announced in this city the start of the third phase of the project Supporting Cuba in Aquaculture, intended to increase aquaculture production in the country through capacity building and the development of farming practices to boost food security and exports.

Cuban deputy minister of Agriculture Maury Hechavarría and Tran Thanh Nam, his counterpart from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, discussed potential joint efforts to develop Cuba’s agri-food sector at a meeting in which both officials ratified the historic ties of fraternity and friendship between the two countries and their willingness to increase cooperation in fields of common interest.

The search for creative solutions to increase food production, and the need to develop the potential of each municipality, are the major challenges of the Ministry of Food Industry (MINAL by its Spanish acronym) in 2023, said Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuban Prime Minister.

PhD in Economic Sciences José Luis Rodríguez, full professor and consultant with the World Economy Research Center (CIEM), described Cuba’s bancarization of the US dollar as another step to organize and streamline the country’s monetary relations.

Jose Luis Perello, PhD in Economic Sciences, described as a measure that benefits the recipients of remittances from the United States and international tourism the decision to accept dollars in cash again in banks and non-bank financial institutions in the country.

Cuba’s Central Bank issued on Monday a news release announcing that financial institutions and banks in Cuba are already accepting US dollar cash deposits in bank accounts, while the US dollar will continue to be accepted at the exchange market.

Cuba’s Economy Ministry approved the applications of 213 new micro, small and medium companies, with 208 of them being private businesses.
