Havana, Cuba, May 16 (ACN) The local production of bio-pesticides in Cuban municipalities is expected to improve after the introduction of new equipment and resources to manage crop pests.
The initiative, sponsored by the European Union with the support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Cuba’s Agriculture Ministry, aims at developing local capacities towards fod security based on science and innovation.
The project will benefit over 5 thousand hectares in municipalities of the central Cuban region.
The new equipment will favor the joint work among the Institute for Vegetable Health Research (INISAV), provincial vegetable health labs and production centers, said INISAV director Marlene Veitia.
The use of bio-pesticides is strategic for Cuban agriculture because they contribute to technological sovereignty, the reduction of chemicals and their imports, waste-free harvests.
