Yolanda Ferrer Gomez, president of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), announced the declaration of the legislative body for the celebration of Africa Day, on May 25, proud of the roots and the formation of Cuban nationality.

Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted on Twitter the solidarity expressed by the people at Friday's vigil dedicated to the 46 dead victims of the accident that took place on May 6 at the Saratoga Hotel in the Cuban capital.

Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party’s Central Committee and President of Cuba attended the vigil called by the Young Communist League to pay tribute to the victims of the accidental blast occurred May 6th at Havana’s Saratoga Hotel.

 The National Institute of Social Security (INASS) is carrying out a centralized process of granting provisional and definitive pensions, in a quick way, for all the affected workers and relatives of the victims of the accident at the Saratoga hotel, without distinction of pension rights.

Cuban FM Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla denounced today on Twitter that by excluding the island from the Summit of the Americas, Washington is eliminating the possibility of discussing important issues on the bilateral and regional relationship, such as migration.

The President of the Republic of Cuba declared Official Mourning May 13 and 14 given the painful accident occurred May 6 at Havana’s Saratoga Hotel which claimed 45 lives, including that of a Spanish citizen.

In view of the deep sorrow of our people due to the unfortunate accident that occurred at the Saratoga Hotel on May 6, in which 44 compatriots and one Spanish citizen have lost their lives, and after the conclusion of the rescue and salvage actions, the President of the Republic of Cuba agreed to decree Official Mourning, from 6:00 a.m. on May 13 until 12:00 p.m. on May 14.

The search for one of the chambermaids of the Saratoga Hotel who is still missing since the accident continues today, even in the surroundings of the building, as rescuers and other specialized forces have managed to reach 90% of the hotel's premises.

According to a statement issued by the Cuban Petroleum Enterprise (CUPET), the images of a fire currently making the rounds of the social networks have nothing to do with the Ñico López Refinery, as it actually broke out in a grocery store at the Guaicanamar Conference Center in Havana’s Regla municipality and was put out by firefighters.

Rescuers found the body of one of the two missing persons still unaccounted for amid the debris of the Saratoga hotel, Colonel Luis Carlos Guzman, chief of the Cuban Fire Department, said in statements to the media.
