Dr. Francisco Durán García, national director of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, called on the population to act more responsibly against and work harder to tackle the current epidemiological situation in Cuba, marked by a spreading transmission of the dengue and oropouche viruses in 14 and 15 provinces of the country, respectively.

As part of the efforts of the Cuban public health ministry (Minsap by its Spanish acronym) to tackle pneumococcal disease, the vaccination campaign with the Cuban immunogen Quimio-Vio begins today for two-year-old children, Francisco Duran Garcia, national director of hygiene and epidemiology, said at a press conference.

The plaques “40 years of love and hope for the world” and “40th anniversary of Family Medicine” were bestowed on workers and founders of the Unidad Central de Cooperación Médica (UCCM) in recognition of its four decades of dedication to this humane endeavor ever since it was founded by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro on October 3, 1984.

The José Luis Miranda pediatric university hospital in the city of Santa Clara receives foreign and domestic donations that contribute to the improvement of 11 different health care services, according to Dr. Marta Beatriz García Carballoso, head of the oncohematology ward, where about 45 new children from Central Cuba who suffer from serious illnesses are admitted every year.

Chinse deputy minister of Science and Technology, Long Teng, expressed his interest in the Cuban development of Nanotechnology during a visit on Monday to the local Center for Advanced Studies—specialized in the scientific area.

Eduardo Martinez Diaz, Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment, and Laksana Tri Handoko, president of the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this city relating to scientific collaboration in areas such as renewable energy, nanotechnology, agriculture and food production, and life, health and environmental sciences, among others.
