Cuban province to foster timely diagnosis of genetic diseases

HOLGUIN, Cuba, Jan 24 (ACN) The timely diagnosis of genetic diseases is one of the main work objectives of the General Directorate of Public Health in the eastern province of Holguin for this 2025, as a strategy aimed at better control and care.

Hansel Caballero Castellano, director of medical assistance of the entity, told the Cuban News Agency that the community has an essential role in the identification of these ailments, based on the actions of the family doctor and nurse.

He pointed out that action will be taken mainly on cardiovascular conditions in the pediatric age group, as well as on hearing and degenerative diseases affecting the child population.

At the same time, the training of specialists in General Comprehensive Medicine who can detect the first symptoms and achieve a higher resolution in the evaluation of the patient, he said.

These diagnoses are also applied in interventions in the vulnerable neighborhoods of the eastern territory, prioritizing mountainous, rural and difficult-to-access areas, Caballero Castellano pointed out.

The health sector also maintains active screening for the detection of cancer, chronic non-communicable diseases and others that are among the main causes of death and whose early identification has an impact on the favorable evolution and quality of life of those affected.
