Arboviral disease transmission rate drops in Cuba



 HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 23 (ACN) Thanks to epidemiological control and prevention actions as well as to a the weather conditions, the active transmission of arboviral diseases is decreasing in Cuba, according to Dr. Francisco Durán García, national director of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health.

In the case of dengue fever, he reported cases in only five provinces, with two patients in serious condition still in ICU, whereas the Oropouche virus, first detected in Cuba in 2024, three cases were confirmed this week, with four of them in hospital and nine homebound.

Dr. Durán urged the population to make sure their children of up to two years of age get the vaccine Quimio-Vio against invasive pneumococcal disease and stressed the need to observe a good personal hygiene and food and water safety protocols to avoid outbreaks of communicable diseases.
