HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 11 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated Cuban women scientists on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science―with Building a future for women in science” as this year’s theme―and praised their commitment and talent, describing it as an example to girls.
“More than half of Cuban scientists have the face and soul of a woman”, he wrote. “Congratulations, admirable women scientists"
The leader’s message shared a tweet from the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment recognizing women’s role in Cuban science and technology.
On his end, Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, reiterated the island’s pledge to guarantee Cuban women and girls full and equal participation in science, which boasts a 53% female presence in the field of research.
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed February 11 as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in recognition of the key role they have played throughout history in fields such as medicine, physics and technology.
