HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 17 (ACN) Cuban Ambassador to Bolivia, Elba Rosa Perez, expressed optimism about a collaboration agreement between the two countries in nuclear medicine, which will be signed Monday in Havana.
In an exclusive interview to Prensa Latina, the diplomat assured that the health of both countries will benefit from the signing of an Interinstitutional Cooperation Agreement between the Bolivian Nuclear Energy Agency (ABEN by its Spanish acronym) and the Isotope Center of the Agency of Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies (Aenta by its Spanish acronym) of the Caribbean country.
She explained that this long-standing agreement is in force, and many actions have been undertaken in science and technology; however, this new understanding specifies an action in the practical order in nuclear development and advanced technologies.
Regarding ABEN, she considered that it is an extraordinarily well-equipped agency with high technology and that, as they have been familiar with Cuba's work and its human resources training for several decades, they are interested in establishing a collaboration for joint work, taking advantage of the expertise of Cuban human resources.
According to Prensa Latina, engineer Hortensia Jimenez, executive general director of ABEN, traveled to Cuba for this purpose.
The ambassador described that this is an agreement that will directly address health issues, with a joint work that will allow the continued development of medicines for the improvement of the quality of life in all areas of people suffering from cancer.
As an example, she mentioned the Center for Molecular Immunology, creator of several vaccines, including one for lung cancer, which is currently in Phase III trials, and confirmed that the agreement focuses in this direction.
