HAVANA, Cuba, May 20 (ACN) In order to improve the opportune diagnosis and efficiency of cardiovascular treatments, cardiac troponin tests, a blood test to accurately determine myocardial infarction, ischemic heart disease or heart failure, are being implemented.

Members of the U.S.-based Cuba solidarity project HATUEY traveled to Havana with a donation of cytostatic medicines for children with cancer and other medical supplies worth 60,000 dollars.

Cuban Health Ministry reiterated its commitment and firm willingness to protect and assist HIV/Aids patients in the country and also share with other nations its achievements in the prevention, diagnostic, treatment and control of the disease.

In order to improve the quality of life of patients with heart diseases, theCuban Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery is developing a research project for the application of biomarkers in the practice of rehabilitation exercises.

The prevention, timely diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases is today a priority in Cuba, as it is the leading cause of death in the country, Juan Prohias Martinez, head of the National Cardiology Group of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), told the Cuban News Agency.

The project "Expansion of differentiated services of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) for key population groups in the Republic of Cuba" renewed cooperation between Cuban and foreign health institutions.

The Agency for Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies (Aenta by its Spanish acronym) confirmed the organization tomorrow in Havana of scientific sessions on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its constitution in 1994, when the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma by its Spanish acronym) was also created.

An observatory for the specialty of Neonatal Surgery is operating at the Octavio de la Concepcion y de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital in Holguin, aimed at reducing the infant mortality rate and improving the care of surgical neonates.

Specialists from the Isotope Center (Centis by its Spanish acronym) have been assigned the task of providing hormone determinations by radioimmunoassay (RIA) methods to 15 hospital institutions of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap by its Spanish acronym).
