Cuba reiterates its commitment to science and technology

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 16 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, reiterated today Cuba's commitment to the efforts of the South to strengthen scientific and technological platforms.

On the occasion of the International Day of Science, Technology and Innovation for the South, the Cuban diplomat stressed the importance of scientific advances for development.

The date was approved in January 2024 when the United Nations General Assembly accepted the resolution presented by the Group of 77 and China to establish the International Day of Science, Technology and Innovation for the South every September 16.

This proposal was introduced by Cuba as president of the bloc, after being agreed by the heads of state and government participating in the Group's Summit held in Havana in September 2023.

The celebration recognizes the key role of scientific-technical advances in economic growth and sustainable development, the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the political declaration on the Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of collaboration between countries for scientific development.
