The Republic of Laos sent a donation of food and cleansing equipment to the Havana-based Frank Pais orthopedic hospital in an effort to support local efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the province of Guantánamo makes progress with the COVID-19 vaccines and works across the board to keep improving its epidemiological situation, a package of measures of flexibilization will be implemented starting Thursday, a step not to be seen as a relaxation of biosecurity, local political and governmental authorities insist.

“We are still committed to vaccinating the entire Cuban population before the end of the year, a challenge taken on by the whole health and science system with responsibility and complete dedication,” said Cuban Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has more than once put blood donations at risk in municipalities of the province of Ciego de Avila, voluntary contributors to this noble gesture have already reached the mark—70 donations—planned for September.

The dedication of the island's medical personnel engaged in the fight against COVID-19 will always deserve our recognition, inasmuch as they have worked nonstop for 18 months, risking their lives to look after every citizen’s health.

“We are making history here,” Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez wrote today on Twitter in reference to the swift and effective COVID-19 vaccination process among Cuban children and adolescents.

At 23, Leticia de la Caridad Domínguez Montañez has seen the face of death too many times, but this, far from discouraging her, has made it clear to her that she was right when she chose to study medicine.

Based on voluntary blood donations from patients convalescing from COVID-19, the AICA Laboratories Company along with the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP by its Spanish acronym) are developing a clinical trial with the anti-SARS-CoV-2 gamma globulin product, which showed encouraging results in Phase I in terms of safety, reduction of pulmonary lesions and viral negativization.
