A group of Cubans stranded in United States because of COVID-19 returned to the Caribbean island and after spending 14 days in isolation centers, they will be able to reunite with their families, the Cuban embassy in USA reported.

Cuba reported 12 new positive cases for COVID 19, for a total of 2,119 cases for SARS Cov 2, Dr Francisco Duran, National Director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP by its Spanish acronym) told the press on his daily report.

The U.S. Department of Transportation(DOT) announced on Thursday the reduction of the number of charter flights to Cuba to 3,600 trips per year, in response to a request made last January by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Cuba studied 1,363 samples for COVID-19, resulting in 22 positive samples. The country accumulated 101,108 samples taken and 2,005 positive (2.0 percent) and 1,760 of them (87.4 percent) recovered, the Ministry of Public Health reported Friday.

With the 15 new discharges, the number of people in Cuba who have recovered from COVID-19 has reached 1,704, but self-care measures must continue to be taken to avoid a new wave of the virus, Francisco Duran Garcia, national director of epidemiology at the ministry of public health, said at a press conference Monday.

As a result of the coordinating efforts undertaken in the last two weeks between the U.S. and Cuban authorities, Cuban citizens stranded in the United States in the midst of the current pandemic could return to national territory this Friday on two charter flights.
