The city of Cienfuegos organized a cultural gala to hail July 26, National Rebellion Day, with the presence of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and Marydé Fernández López, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Communist Party in the province.

July 2, 1949 saw the opening in Santiago de Cuba of the Provincial Prison of Oriente, known as Boniato and designed only to store men, including Fidel Castro Ruz and the attackers of the Moncada Barracks, sent there four years later.

The Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) approved to submit the new Code of the Families to the people’s referendum on Sunday, September 25 on the island and a week earlier for Cubans abroad.

“This group includes attorneys, teachers, students, all sorts of people, but in truth we are Fidel,” said Gail Walker, executive director of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization in charge of the 30 plus year-old Pastors for Peace Friendshipment Caravans, during the official reception of its members in the province of Matanzas.

The Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) is holding the 9th Session of its 9th Legislature on July 21-23 at Havana’s Conventions Palace.

The 63-year-old U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade makes it hard for the Cubans to enjoy a decent way of life and the universal rights to proper food, health and education, which is why civil society demands its end every year in international forums.

“Cuba is a beacon, a path and an example to those who dream of a better and more humane world,” said Reverend Claudia de la Cruz, co-director of the People’s Forum in New York and member of the 32nd Friendshipment Caravan organized by Pastors for Peace, whose members called for the end of the U.S. blockade of Cuba.

The Government of the province of Santiago de Cuba awarded the Merit for Life distinction to the Ernesto Che Guevara solidarity brigade from Spain and to Michele Curto, president of the Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba, for their contribution to the fight against COVID-19.
