HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 1 (ACN) Cuban authorities highlighted today on Twitter the values of the new Code of Families, which on September 25 will be submitted to a popular referendum.
Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and president of the country, said on the social network that approving this law is a commitment to life, to the dignity of Cubans, and to the continuity of those who have guided us.
Foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez also expressed his trust in the Code, based on its values, on the rights it expands and supports and the guarantees it endorses.
On June 22, the National Assembly of People's Power unanimously approved the 25th version of the Code of Families, after a broad process of popular consultation.
In the text, 49.15 % of the articles were modified in relation to the previous version, based on the proposals derived from the popular consultation, and issues representing 2.06 % of the document were also incorporated.
For his part, Oscar Silveira Martinez, minister of justice, affirmed that this law is stronger because it is permeated with popular sovereignty, revolutionary essence, protection of rights and a high human value, and insisted that it does not regulate rigid or pre-established family models, but that it propitiates that all have access to the protection of institutions of a family nature.
Next September 25, the popular referendum will define whether or not the law enters into force, by means of a free, equal, direct and secret vote of the voters.
