Ever since the first COVID-19 cases were diagnosed in Cuba, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has helped the country’s efforts to keep in place services deemed essential to children, teenagers and pregnant women with foods, syringes, means of protection, refrigerators and vital equipment such as an ambulance, an oxygen plant and high precision ultrasound equipment.

As part of the ongoing International Congress of Researchers about Children, Adolescents and Youths, experts with the National Sexual Education Center (CENESEX), the Center for Studies on Youth (CESJ) and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) called for the need to prevent adolescent pregnancy.

For this week, the 13th of the year, Cuban specialists predict a gradual rise in the number of cases and hospital admissions, hence the need to keep observing the current health protocols and administering booster vaccines, as stated in the meeting Tuesday of President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz with scientists and experts involved in the fight against the new coronavirus.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will present today in Havana its Medal for Inventors to the creators of the Cuban COVID-19 vaccines Soberana 01, Soberana 02, Abdala and Mambisa, which have saved thousands of lives in Cuba and other countries.

Cuban Health Minister Jose Angel Portal Miranda reaffirmed his country’s commitment to keep working to meet the goal of the World Health Organization in advancing towards the eradication of tuberculosis by the year 2030.

Cuba’s Health Ministry reported 877 new COVID-19 cases, 824 hospital discharges and no deaths due to the disease during the analysis of Wednesday samples.
