HAVANA, Cuba, March 9 (ACN) The Energy for Life campaign, launched from Italy in support of the Cuban people, has raised more than 200,000 euros to date for the purchase and installation of solar panels.
According to Prensa Latina, the solidarity initiative began in late 2015 in response to the tightening of the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade.
The project gained momentum after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on January 29 to obstruct oil exports to Cuba.
In its first phase, Energy for Life will provide funding to supply energy to a plant for processing and distributing milk to children and vulnerable people in eastern Cuba.
The initiative has sparked hope, and the funds raised will enable the generation of electricity from renewable sources, ensuring the continuity of public services, schools, hospitals, cultural centers, and jobs, according to a statement from the National Association of Friendship between Italy and Cuba (ANAIC).
The project is also sponsored by the National Association of Partisans of Italy (ANPI), the Association for Social Promotion (ARCI), and the General Confederation of Italian Workers (CGIL).
