Cuba to Host Pina Colada Festival in April

Havana, March 24 (ACN) From April 2 to 5, the province of Ciego de Ávila will host the long-awaited 23rd edition of the Piña Colada Festival, which will take place with a cultural program adapted to current conditions, but faithful to its principles and cultural mission.

During a press conference held at Havana’s Casa de la Música, Giusette León García, the festival’s general producer, informed attendees that, as is tradition, the central region’s largest cultural event will celebrate the anniversaries of the Young Communist League (UJC) and the José Martí Pioneer Organization, as well as the 40th anniversary of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS).

This year, León García added, the Piña Colada Festival will be dedicated to the distinguished soprano from Ciego de Ávila, Lucy Safont, and will also include space for the 10th edition of the Music and Youth Symposium. Although the exact date is yet to be confirmed, she emphasized the importance of maintaining this major theoretical event, which offers an opportunity to learn about the art and creative work of young Cuban artists.

The provincial capital and the municipality of Morón will serve as the main venues, hosting three days of fusion, alternative, and contemporary music concerts in regular spaces such as the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), the ARTEX Patio, Indercito Square, and Morón’s Reguero Theater.

Another highlight of this edition, she noted, will be the excellent opportunity to use— as one of the main stages— the emblematic Principal Theater of the provincial capital, recently restored.

As is customary, the 2026 Piña Colada Festival will also bring music and joy to neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and other socially significant sites through the cultural outreach initiative “Latir avileño.” This effort will make use of spaces with natural lighting and ventilation, without major technical requirements, to promote the rational use of electricity, the producer explained.

Under the slogan “Culture, Tradition, and Modernity,” and with a commitment to maintaining a celebration that consistently delivers great music and enjoys strong public support, the event will begin its activities in the so-called “land of the rooster,” where the streets will once again be filled with identity through a large popular parade as part of the second edition of “El Águila de la Trocha,” a gathering of history, culture, and traditions.

Conceived and led by renowned musician and active cultural promoter Arnaldo Rodríguez, the 23rd Piña Colada Festival is organized by the Provincial Directorate of Culture of Ciego de Ávila, the company Musicávila, the Musicuba Agency of the Cuban Recordings and Music Publishing Company (EGREM), and Mambo S.R.L.
It is also sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Music, the AHS, UNEAC, the José Martí Brigade of Art Instructors, and the territorial branch of ARTEX, with the support of political and administrative authorities.

“It will be a celebration for youth—an atypical one; and work is already underway to ensure a festival worthy of what the people of Ciego de Ávila expect and deserve, even amid a context where culture is also affected by the energy crisis. But it adapts through art, because the joy and vitality of the Cuban people cannot be turned off or blocked,” León García concluded.
