After seven hours and 45 minutes of a complex surgical intervention to correct an isolated craniosynostosis (fusion of bones), a multidisciplinary team from the Eliseo Noel Caamaño pediatric hospital in Matanzas(western Cuba) saved the life of baby David Alejandro Pujol Moreno, who was only three months old.

In the last 15 days, 2,688 pediatric patients have been diagnosed in Cuba with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with a 179 daily average report.

The Havana municipalities of Boyeros, Arroyo Naranjo and Cotorro, which are about to begin the second stage of the health intervention with the anti-COVID-19 Abdala vaccine candidate, have been certified by the Public Health authorities, according to a meeting of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP).

Cuba reported over 29 thousand new COVID-19 cases and 258 deaths up to May 25th over a daily infection average of more than 1 thousand and 10 deaths, which are the highest figures since the pandemic’s onset here in March 2020.

With the 11 deaths at the close of this Monday, Cuba accumulates 901 deaths caused by complications of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, since its outbreak in the country on March 11, 2020, the Ministry of Public Health ( MINSAP by its Spanish acronym) reported today in Havana.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recognized Cuba's results at the head of the Technical Coordination Body (OCTA by its Spanish acronym), of the Regional Cooperation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARCAL by its Spanish acronym).

Cuba studied 22,372 samples, resulting in 1,291 positive ones. The country accumulates 4, 193,872 samples taken and 135,499 positive.

 Francisco Duran Garcia, national director of epidemiology, warned today that in the first 23 days of May there are 236 deaths due to COVID-19, a figure higher than the 229 reported in April, the month that so far had had the highest numbers in this indicator.

This Monday, the Government Working Group for the control of the COVID-19 epidemic analyzed the situation of ten provinces that are unable to control the disease. They also reported on the Sanitary Intervention with Cuban vaccine candidates, which is going well, according to what was designed.

As part of the actions carried out by the province of Matanzas in order to create all the necessary conditions for the beginning of the sanitary intervention to the population, private drivers from all over the territory are ready to guarantee the success of the process.

Dr. Jose Angel Portal Miranda, Cuban minister of public health, will speak Tuesday at the 74th World Health Assembly (WHA), to be held from today until June 1.

Cuba studied 21,259 samples for COVID 19, resulting in 1,155 positive ones. The country accumulates 4, 171,500 samples taken and 134,208 positive.

More than eight million lives have been saved and some 2.46 billion people have received the services of Cuban medical collaboration since May 23, 1963, when Cuba sent the first health brigade to the Republic of Algeria.
