For the first time ever, more than 129 US travel agents and tour-operators are attending a Cuban tourism fair, said Tourism minister Manuel Marrero during the inauguration of the 35th edition of that event that runs till May 7 in central Ciego de Avila province.

With 27 tourist facilities under management in Cuba, Spain´s Melia Hotels International makes efforts to keep growing at the Cuban market, said directives with the hotel chain during the opening on Tuesday of the 45 International Tourism Fair.

Cuba´s tourism minister Manuel Marrero opened the 35 International Tourism Fair in the resorts on the keys off the central Ciego de Avila province as the event aims at consolidating the island a major Caribbean destination.

Alicia Barcena, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), described Mariel Special Development Zone (ZDEM by its Spanish acronym) as an attractive and necessary project for the region.

With nearly three decades of experience in hotel business, Gaviota Tourism Group will open four new facilities in 2015 to expand its presence in major tourist poles of Cuba.
