In his first Olympic Games, Cuban boxer Erislandy Álvarez (63.5 kg) will seek today the gold medal in a fight against the three-time world champion Sofiane Oumiha (France), who beat the Cuban in the final of the 2023 World Championships in Tashkent.

“There is only one man in the world who has reached Olympic glory five times and that is you, the Cuban Mijaín! We are so proud of you, champion!”, President Miguel Díaz-Canel wrote in a post on X after Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler Mijaín López beat the Chilean Yasmani Acosta—of Cuban origin—and achieved his fifth victory in Olympic Games to the joy of the entire nation.

Cuban judoka Idalis Ortiz finished the 33rd Olympic Games of Paris 2024 with the satisfaction of participating in her fifth Olympic Games and winning four medals, a record that ratifies her as Cuba's best medal winner.

Cuban Laina Perez placed 24th today in the qualifying phase of the 25-meter (m) pistol, corresponding to the sport shooting at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Perez, champion of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, accumulated 577 points in the precision and rapid fire stages, and could not be included among the eight finalists in an event in which 40 female pistol shooters competed.


The Cuban duo of Jorge Luis Alayo-Noslen Diaz won undefeated Group D of beach volleyball at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, defeating Morocco's Mohammed Abicha and Zouheir Elgraoui 2-0, once again with the support of the audience that attended the Champs de Mars, in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Raul Fornes Valenciano, first vice president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder by its Spanish acronym) and Reynier Olivera Matos, director of the Branch School of Inder, received on Wednesday night the Cuban tennis players who concluded their performance at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
