HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 30 (ACN) Cuba will be in action today at the 17th edition of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games with presence in the parataekwondo, para-sports and para-athletics tournaments, with venues at the Grand Palais, the Cháteauroux Shooting Center and the Stade de France, respectively.
Cuba's Michel Ernesto Suarez lost today to Azerbaijan's Imamaddin Khalilov in the quarterfinals, while on Thursday Lilisbet Rodriguez (47 kg/K44), lost in her first bout and was out of the Games.
De Angelo Loriga and Alexis Reina, and Ledys Posada, in the 10-meter air pistol of the S1 category, will be the first Cuban shooters and will do so in the round of 16, as well as paratriathlete Raicel Gonzalez (T47), but in the first elimination round of the 100-meter flat.
The other Cuban with action on Thursday was the archer Leidiys Posada, who finished in 23rd place in the qualifying round, with 456 points, and will compete again on September 3 in the round of 16, on a day in which the round of 16 will also be held, on the Esplanade des Invalides.
Parathletics, with nine athletes, three coaches and a guide, is the most represented in the delegation, which is completed by parajudo (1-1-0), para-swimming (2-1-0), parataekwondo (3-1-0), para-bowling (1-1-0), table paratriathlon (1-1-0), archery (1-1-0), and para-sports (3-1-0).
Cuba has accumulated 91 medals (43-20-28) in its eight participations in Paralympics, distributed in Barcelona 92 (3-3-3), Atlanta 1996 (8-3-0), Sydney 2000 (4-2-2), Athens 2004 (2-2-7), Beijing 2008 (5-3-6), London 2012 (9-5-3), Rio de Janeiro 2016 (8-1-6) and Tokyo 2020 (4-1-1).
World record holders and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champions and flag bearers, Omara Durand and Robiel Yankiel Sol, will once again carry the responsibility of Cuba's main results.
