HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 30 (ACN) Cuba's U12 team, which is preparing for the Pan American Championship, will play today for the gold medal against Venezuela in the invitational tournament being held in the Dominican Republic.
Yesterday's match was suspended due to rain, but the bronze medal match, won by the hosts with a score of 9-1 against US team, could be played.
Cuba, coached by professor Vladimir Vargas, have had an excellent performance throughout the tournament, remaining undefeated in six games.
In the qualifying stage they defeated with dominance the representative teams of Puerto Rico with a score of 8-0, Venezuela (13-8), Colombia (4-1), Aruba (10-0) and Ecuador (14-1) and in the semifinals they knocked out the US 11-1.
The event has helped the boys to train for the Pan American Championship (pre-World Championship) to be held in Panama City from October 19 to 27 at the Rod Carew and Andy Alonso stadiums, with the participation of 12 teams and where three tickets for the World Cup will be distributed.
Cuba was placed in Group B along Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Argentina, while in Group A the hosts Panama, Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Nicaragua and Ecuador will compete.
