In view of the concern that due to the principles of internationalism and Cuba's support to other countries for the treatment of COVID-19, the nation's health services will be affected, the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP by its Spanish acronym) assured this Wednesday that this does not affect the professionals or resources in the local fight.

In the fight against COVID-19, Cuba continues spreading solidarity in several nations of the world and a sign of this is that a Cuban medical brigade, made up of 25 cooperators, is travelling this Wednesday to Belize.

The Recombinant Alpha Interferon 2B, a drug that Cuba produces and which is also made with Cuban technology in the Chang Heber joint venture, has a wide reach in the treatment of COVID-19 in China and other nations.

A total of 22 drugs used in the confrontation and treatment of Covid-19, among which interferon alpha 2B is highlighted for its proven results in China, are produced in plants of the Biocubafarma business group.

Cuba confirmed two new positive cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, totaling seven in the country, but it cannot be said there is transmission in the country nor is it urgent to establish a quarantine, Francisco Duran, national director of epidemiology at the health ministry said.

Cuba is still with four confirmed cases of COVID-19, tests were done on people who have had epidemiological risk and clinical manifestations consistent with the disease and have been negative, so no drastic measures such as closing schools or borders will be taken to date.

Developed in 1986 by a team of researchers from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), human recombinant Interferon Alfa 2B has benefited thousands of Cuban patients since its introduction into the national health system, and is one of the drugs currently used to combat the new coronavirus COVID-19.

The Jamaican government asked Cuba for around 100 nurses to help local intensive care units (ICUs) in treating the most serious cases of COVID-19, the Jamaica Observer journal reported.

Cuba now has a Science, Technology and Innovation Observatory (OCTI), reported this Wednesday the Master in Science Ceferino Julio Santaren Suarez, director general of the Institute of Scientific and Technological Information, leading the design of the project led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA by its Spanish acronym).

Cuba is equipped with the necessary laboratory network and resources for the diagnosis of the coronavirus COVID-19, a disease which has killed more than 3,823 people and infected 106,112 worldwide.
