Cuban Health Ministry implements cancer prevention measures in western province

HAVANA, Cuba, August 8 (ACN) Public Health personnel are carrying out cancer prevention measures in San Jose de las Lajas, capital of Mayabeque province, with the goal of reducing the incidence of this disease among the population, Mayabeque newspaper reported.

Health professionals are holding talks and health consultations in the offices of family doctors and nurses with cancer patients and their families.

Health promoters, general practitioners, and licensed nurses are explaining the dangers and consequences of the disease during these meetings and are advising patients on cancer prevention methods and ways to improve their quality of life.

Since 1970, cancer has been one of the three leading causes of death in Cuba, according to official data from the Ministry of Public Health.

This makes the disease the leading cause of potentially lost years of life in the country since 2000.

Screening and follow-up programs prioritize early cancer diagnosis in the province of Mayabeque, enabling these early detection strategies to extend the lives of patients in the western province.
