HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 21 (ACN) The Ministries of Health of Cuba and Cape Verde held talks aimed at strengthening medical cooperation between the two nations, as announced on the official website of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Cubaminrex).
Jorge Figuereido, Cape Verde's Minister of Health, and Ángela Gomes, national director of Health, received Aniuska Palacio Noa, deputy director of International Cooperation of Cuba's Central Unit for Medical Collaboration (UCCM), who was accompanied by Noslando Ramos González, head of the Cuban medical brigade in the country.
During the meeting, both parties discussed strategic issues related to the signing of a new health collaboration agreement, as well as the request for and arrival of Cuban professionals to strengthen the Cape Verdean healthcare system.
According to official data from the Minrex, cooperation between Cuba and Cape Verde in the field of health dates back to 1976, when the first Cuban doctors arrived in the African nation, just one year after diplomatic relations were established.
Since then, hundreds of Cuban professionals have provided services in hospitals, community centers, and medical training programs in the archipelago, and today they play an essential role in primary care, specialized medicine, and technical support to local health authorities.
