Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez confirmed that his country owns trained professionals to face COVID-19 and offer its modest cooperation to other peoples.

The Cuban Ministry of Higher Education (MES by its Spanish acronym) announced this Thursday the postponement of the entrance exams to that educational level this year, until the health situation caused by the COVID-19 allows it.

Cuba can control a possible major epidemic caused by COVID-19 thanks to its health system and well-planned organization, Dr. Manuel Romero Placeres, director of the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), said on Thursday.

About 256 health specialists from Cuba, members of the Henry Reeve brigade, will arrive in Angola to combat the spread of the new SARS CoV-2 coronavirus, declared a pandemic last March 11 by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Recombinant Alpha Interferon 2B, a drug that Cuba produces and which is also made with Cuban technology in the Chang Heber joint venture, has a wide reach in the treatment of COVID-19 in China and other nations.

A total of 22 drugs used in the confrontation and treatment of Covid-19, among which interferon alpha 2B is highlighted for its proven results in China, are produced in plants of the Biocubafarma business group.

Cuba confirmed two new positive cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, totaling seven in the country, but it cannot be said there is transmission in the country nor is it urgent to establish a quarantine, Francisco Duran, national director of epidemiology at the health ministry said.

The Molecular Microbiology laboratories in Villa Clara (central Cuba) and Santiago de Cuba (eastern of the country) are strongholds for determining potential patients infected with the new coronavirus.
