HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 12 (ACN) Francisco Duran, national director of epidemiology at the Cuban ministry of public health, spoke this morning at the morning TV show Buenos Dias to report on the three confirmed cases of the new Coronavirus Covid-19 in Cuba.
In this regard, the official clarified it was a group of four Italians who arrived from Lombardy, northern Italy, a high-risk geographical region.
On their way to Trinidad (central Cuba), one of the travelers showed minor symptoms and the tour operator and the driver contacted the person in charge of the accommodation, who alerted the provincial international clinic.
Complying with the protocol, the specialists visited the place and reported to the local authorities, immediately transferring the foreigners to the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) with all the necessary care.
Out of the four suspects, only one presents minor symptoms so far, a 61-year-old man, while the 57 and 30-year-old women who tested positive remain asymptomatic.
The patients are kept isolated and the one with symptoms remains stable and responds well.
The six people who had contact with the confirmed cases are in quarantine, if showing symptoms they will be tested, otherwise they will be sent home but under extreme surveillance.
It is planned that all foreigners entering the country with symptoms will mainly be admitted to the IPK and that so far the system has worked well, as samples were taken immediately after admission, Duran explained.
The new Covid-19 Coronavirus that arose in the Chinese city of Wuhan late last year was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization yesterday.
