Dagmar Garcia Rivera, director of research at the Finlay Institute of Vaccines, reported today on Twitter that the weather conditions in Havana did not stop the beginning of phase 3 trials of the Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidate, Soberana 02, in the early hours of Monday morning in the capital.

Cuba has 22 molecular biology laboratories, of very expensive technology, in addition to the resources used, in which the positive cases to the COVID-19 are diagnosed, despite the blockade of the United States against the island for almost six decades ago and that every day is worsening.

Patients who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms during the evolution of COVID-19 develop a lower immunity to the disease and, therefore, are more vulnerable to reinfection and to suffer from other conditions, said Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology of Cuban health ministry(MINSAP by its Spannish acronym), today in Havana.

Havana, March 4 (ACN) Research studies by the Havana-based Hematology and Immunology Institute revealed that COVID-19 convalescents who were either asymptomatic or mild symptomatic may develop less immunity and be reinfected.

The new coronavirus spreads out so fast and is so dangerous and unpredictable that there is no room for carelessness in surveillance or slowness in the application of health protocols. That is why this is a permanent battle and that is how the government is assessing the epidemiological situation in each province.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez highlighted today on his Twitter account the beginning of the third phase of clinical trials of Soberana 02, one of the five COVID-19 vaccine candidates developed in the country, thanked its creators, and praised the rigorous work of the Cuban Regulatory Authority, the Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (CECMED).

Cuba has a fifth vaccine candidate against COVID-19, Soberana 01A, intended for convalescents of the disease, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez reported today on his Twitter account after the creators of the vaccine (experts from the Finlay Vaccine Institute) confirmed the news at a weekly meeting of researchers.

So far and in almost a year of outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, there have been no cases of reinfection with COVID-19 in Cuba, said today in Havana Dr. Francisco Duran Garcia, national director of epidemiology of the ministry of public health (MINSAP by its Spanish acronym).
