The Abdala vaccine, 100 % Cuban against COVID-19, is available today in Cienfuegos province for immunization as of July 29 for people over 19 years of age living in the provincial capital, which has been most affected by the incidence of the pandemic.

With the report of 9,323 positives for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, Cuba registered today the highest number of infected people since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country, in March last year, said the national director of epidemiology, Francisco Duran, who warned about the resurgence registered during the last three months, with the consequent increase in cases and deaths.

On World Hepatitis Day, Cuba is working to eliminate those caused by B and C viruses in line with the initiative launched by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to put an end to more than 30 infectious diseases in the region by 2030, including viral hepatitis.

More than 1,160 inhabitants of the municipalities of Palmira and Cruces, in the province of Cienfuegos, are participating from this Monday in the Soberana Centro clinical trial with vaccine candidates produced by the Finlay Vaccine Institute.

On Friday July 23rd, Cuba reported 7 thousand 784 new COVID-19 cases confirmed Thursday through the study of 51 thousand 425 samples. The country now accumulates a total of 6 million 099 thousand 427 samples out of which 316 thousand 383 have proved positive to COVID-19.

Cuba is currently registering the highest number of positive cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic. The Temporary Working Group for the control and prevention of the disease updated the medical protocol to be implemented in positives, suspects and contacts.

Experts with the Pan-Am Health Organization—PAHO, and the World Health Organization –WHO, along with Cuban scientists considered the efficacy results of the Cuban COVID-19 vaccine Abdala and candidate vaccines Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus.

Cuba has reported the largest numbers of children infected with SARS-Cov-2 over the past few days and even when most of them are progressing favorably, there is the risk to develop long-time aftereffects.
