Cuba calls for virtual edition of the International Meeting on Dengue and other arboviruses

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 16 (ACN) The International Course on Dengue and other arboviruses will be held from September 27 to October 1, 2021, and on this occasion, due to the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be conducted, for the first time, in the virtual modality.

The announcement, published on the Infomed website, highlighted that since late 2019 the world is facing an exceptional epidemiological situation characterized by the widespread transmission of SARS CoV-2 and the high number of cases and deaths due to this cause, however, it is essential to maintain the study, surveillance, diagnosis and control of other emerging diseases such as dengue, Zika and chikungunya.

The meeting, now in its 17th edition, is convened by the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center for the Study of Dengue and its Control of the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine, the Cuban Society of Microbiology and Parasitology and the Ministry of Public Health of the Republic of Cuba.

The objective is to update physicians, virologists, immunologists, sociologists, epidemiologists, entomologists, health administrators, among others, on the most relevant aspects related to dengue and other arboviruses of medical relevance, taking into consideration the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world.
