Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez stressed in the need to engage everyone and work hard to help this province recover as soon as possible from the effects of Hurricane Ian and praised the international solidarity and the contribution of Cuban institutions and individuals to this effort.

“Let Cuba rebuild,” is the call that activists made to U.S. President Joe Biden to lift the blockade at least for six months and let the island fix the damages caused by Hurricane Ian.

A solidarity cargo from Mexico arrived today in Cuba with electrical material destined for the recovery of the province of Pinar del Rio(westernmost Cuban province), the most affected by the passage of Hurricane Ian, which on Tuesday hit that territory with category three on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

More than 100 thousand houses were affected in Pinar del Río, in one way or another, by Hurricane Ian, a category 3 in the Saffir-Simpson scale (out of a total of five) that left a trail of destruction in the province.

Solidarity is not just word but a practice among Cubans particularly in the bad times, as it happens after the ravaging passage September 27 by hurricane Ian on the western section of the island inflicting huge damage on communications systems and the power grid.

The first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Havana, Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, addressed the ongoing recovery actions in the city capital after the passage of hurricane Ian, September 27.

The Cuban Electric Company (UNE by its Spanish acronym) reported today that at 7:00 a.m., 862 megawatts (MW) were affected, of which 557 MW in provinces from Pinar del Rio to Mayabeque as a result of the damage caused by Hurricane Ian.
