Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited areas worst hit by Hurricane Ian in the province of Pinar del Río, where the weather event reached Category 3 and caused great damage to agriculture, houses and facilities, in addition to triggering power outages.

The center of Hurricane Ian was estimated at nine o'clock this Tuesday morning at 22.8 degrees North latitude and 83.6 degrees West longitude, over the northern coast of Pinar del Río, near Puerto Esperanza, with maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour and a minimum central pressure of 950 hectoPascal.

Preliminary reports on the passage of category-3 hurricane Ian on the province of Pinar del Rio say that the storm has inflicted more noticeable damage in homes and the electric grid.

Hurricane Ian, category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, made landfall at 3:25 in the morning by La Coloma, located in the head municipality of Pinar del Río and in the southern portion of the province.

Hurricane Ian has gained enough intensity and became a category II storm moving towards western Cuba, where it is expected to make landfall at early hours Tuesday at a point between the localities of San Juan y Martinez and Coloma in western Pinar del Rio province.

Evacuation of citizens in risky areas in the face of the impact of hurricane Ian is one of the measures adopted by Havana authorities to preserve human lives.

The Cuban Institute of Meteorology issued at 3:00 this afternoon the Tropical Cyclone Warning No. 15, which due to its importance we transmit in its entirety:

Cuban prime minister Manuel Marrero Cruz arrived today in Japan, at the head of an official delegation, to participate in the state funeral of former Japanese premier Abe Shinzo, the Cuban presidency noted.
